newborn constipation? my baby is a week old and he is terribly constipated. when he tries to go he cries like hes in pain and his poo is tiny balls that are very hard. what could be causing this? at the hospital he was on enfamil lipil and pood find and hes still on that formula. i did notice though,i gave him some breastmilk a few times and formula off and on,which is when i noticed his constipation acting up. i am not breasfeeding anymore,it was just to give him some. i have tried everething to help him out. what else can i do for him to get his poo back to normal? and what could be causing this? thx
Newborn constipation? Our newborn is only 4 days old and as of today he hasn't had a poop in the last 24 hours. He's peeing, passing gas, burping, etc.. just not pooping. He's only breastfed, and seems to be feeding for 30-40 minutes at at time, with an hour or two sleep in between. Recently he's becoming more agitated and not wanting to latch on easily. How long does one wait before calling the pediatrician? We have our first appointment on Monday afternoon, so would waiting another 24 hours be okay?
Newborn Constipation? My baby is now 6 1/2 weeks old and has been suffering with constipation for the last two weeks after we changed her feed from Aptamil to SMA. We have since changed her feed back to Aptamil and the doctor prescribed Lactulose (which did not work) and Senna which has worked, but every time i stop it she becomes constipated again. One other thing i noticed is that she has started to pass a lot of wind within the last 2 weeks as well. She drinks plenty of water and i think the doctor thinks i am worrying about nothing, but she does seem to be in a lot of pain. Does anyone have any advice?

Can you add karo syrup to formula to relieve newborn constipation or must it be mixed with water? My 12 week old son gets very hard stools and its painful for him so my doctor said to give him a bottle with karo syrup mixed with water. He takes it fine but then it makes him go longer without a formula feeding b/c it fills him up. Then it makes his later feedings very close together and it throws him off schedule. My question is, can I just add the karo to the formula, or must it be seperate with just water?

Pedialyte for newborn constipation? My little one is almost three months old and has been dealing with a bit of constipation since becoming soley formula fed lately. Her pediatrician recommended giving her water to help with the problem. Her constipation seems to be progressively getting worse so I took her back to the pediatrician and he said to continue with the water and if that did not help to give her pedialyte. I thought this was strange and thought that pedialyte was for diarrhea...not that I don't trust my doctor's advice. My 2 wk newborn is constipated and just wondering best way to help stop this? unblock the poor bugger well bubs on a mix of breast milk and forumla more formula though as i had a massive infection and have been really sleepy and ill and on antibiotics due to an early start of mastitis so my supply has dropped down quite a bit but now im getting better and my cracked nipples are healing im starting to use my breast pump to express more and more each day i only get about 10 - 20 ml's every few hrs but im trying to build up my supply again.. But i have given him some boiled water but now you guys are saying its bad for him at such a young age and can thin his blood so i shouldn't use this?? I am sure his constipated because he used to have runnier poos then yesterday he started to have more stools come out soft ones then last night there was a hard stool about 8pm and there hasnt been any movement since then he has been doing wee's though just no bowel movements and he used to have several bowl movements a day

Newborn constipation... how young is too young for juice? First off- I am consulting my daughters ped. This afternoon about this, I just wanted to hear from other moms about their experiences and recommendations! Ok... I have a 2 week old and she is on the enfamil AR formula and as a result she is Constipated now. At diaper changes her poo is a yellowish color, and resembles little pebbles. It isn't rock hard, but definitely not soft enough for her to pass without discomfort... Is it too early to add a little juice to her bottles? With my son we used pear juice but he was older ( about 6 months )... What about prune juice? Or prune/apple juice? Also I read somewhere about a woman who was adding about 1/4 teaspoon of benefiber to her babies bottles... and while I think it would be effective, is that even safe for their tummies? Any advice about how to relieve Constipation in newborns is welcome! Thanks!

karo syrup for constipation in newborn? i recently transitioned from breast to formula with my 2 week old *things werent working out* and he got very constipated due to the change in milk. his pediatrician recommended karo syrup *just a little in his formula*,i used this method also for my son 2 yrs ago...im just wondering how long will i have to use the karo for his constipation before he poops normal on his own? will his poo get better on its own without having to give him the syrup constantly for him to go? anyone else dealt with my situation *transition from breast to formula with constipation issues?
my 1 week old newborn having hard stool and constipation? i have a 1 week old and she is jaundice and the doctor says the only way to get rid of jaundice is for the child to poop ALOT... well my child is pooping but its hard and i think she may also be constipated because last night she was grunting and crying like she was trying to poop. Do you have any suggestions for newborn (2 months) constipation? ? My little girl is definitely constipated. She is only poo'ing out the little balls. She has done this a could of times today and I am concerned. I know to give more water. But are there any other remedies out there that you can recommend from experience. I am NOT giving her Karo Syrup (not the light or dark). But I hate to know my little baby is suffering. She is only 2 months. She is formula fed. We switched her to soy about a week ago, this problem is new. 1. It is the weekend. 2. I was looking for other methods because the prune juice 1oz with 2 oz of water didn't seem to work. I as the pediatrician before coming on here. My pediatrician is against the use of Karo. Also, I have read some terrible things about it. Some people use light Karo some Dark. I have heard more bad things about the dark. SO it is to iffy for me to take a chance. And I don't take chances with my babies She isn't crying uncontrollably, we just know she is due to the size of the stools. Pediatrician recommended the switch in the formula each time.
Newborn constipation?? Please help!? Hi everybody, my infant is 2 1/2 weeks old and is breastfed (pumped into a bottle). The last bowel movement that he passed was yesterday at 2 pm. Ever since he has displayed all the signs of constipation...red face and pushing, hard tummy, crying a painful cry and of course no bowel movement. He is passing some gas though. I cannot get through to my doctor at the moment and was wondering if anyone else has been through this and what they did. Did suppositories work? Rectal stimulation with a thermometer? Mylanta? (I was breast feeding but no longer can, and now she on formula). I didnt think i could give her juice being so young. Thanks for any advice.... any constipation remedies for a 1 week newborn baby? i do both breastfeeding and formula.. i can see why hes constipated now. i took my baby to the pediatrition yesterday and she said stick him to formula since i barely have breastmilk. and also give him 90% formula and 10% breast milk? and add 1tsp of karo syrup in his formula. which did not work. any suggestions?
A couple questions about feeding my newborn and constipation? 1) my newborn will have 2oz of breast milk and 2 0z formula does anyone else do this, i had to stop breastfeeding due to scabbed nipples so now im healed and pumping but also giving him formula. he isnt pooping as much as i thought newborns did...probably about 2-3 times a day spread out, is that normal? He pees alot tho. what can i do about his constipation? 2) how long can u store breast milk in the fridge for, i know u can store in freezer for awhile. i pump about 10oz a day and use almost that in a day... thanks so much! baby is 1 week old today and he is my first <3 and he doesnt get breast milk at every feeding so he does he alot a day im pumping so daddy can help out with the feedings...my healing isnt going so well and we share the load
NEWBORN CONSTIPATION HOME REMEDIES.? i cant buy any constipation stuff for my 2 week old till tomarrow afternoon...but im pritty sure hes constipated...he sounds like hes trying to push out poo and he only pooed a few times today and half the time it was very little...more like a stain. i was pumping breast milk...but i wasent eating so i no it wasent filling him and he wasent getting nutriants. i formula fed him in the hostpital and 2 days at home...then started breast milk...and just today im switching back to formula cause im not healthy enough...so i think thats why. so is ther any remidies i can do...my mother said an ounce of water (with a pinch of sugar to make it tasty so he will take it.) but shes not sure...
newborn constipation? formula feeding mamas? my daughter was born at 36 weeks & 4 days (dont know if this can help play a factor) well is functioned as well as a full termer. Well I did breastfeed her the first week & a half but due to some medical issues i had to stop and gave her formula, she is currently on efamil gentelease i started that yesturday afternoon she took well to it and before that i was giving her similac infant. Well she has been gassy and very fussy in the last 3 days got the gas down but now its constipation which im very concered yesturday she had a little smidget and i know she was to poop.....what can i do please advise thanks in advance....oh she is currently 1 week & 6 days old....(she would have been 38 weeks & 3 days if i was still preggers rite now) i didnt ask to tell be why i stopped breastfeeding so soon....so judgemental if you are not goin to help w/ the question just ignore it answer another one...plain & simple
Suggestions about Newborn constipation? My newborn is only 6 days old and hasn't pooped for 4 days. Some say it's normal and others say that it's not. I am not sure what to do. She is breastfed and receives formula for a supplement. When I asked a nurse, she said that it was normal because the baby just absorbs the breast milk right now and that the formula just hasn't turned into a bowel movement yet and that as long as she is still gassy and makes wet diapers she is fine. My baby does not seem to be in any kind of pain and still eats well. Any suggestions? We have tried brown sugar in her formula and also an infant suppository. Nothing seems to be helping at this point. We had to start supplementing with formula in the hospital because she wasn't taking too well to breast milk. She feeds around 8-9 times in a 24 hour period.

Please answer about newborn constipation? okay my baby is 5 days old and is going on 24 hours with no poop. Im a little concerend about this. He is formula fed on similac sensitive. His pediatricion changed him to that instead of similac advance 2 days ago and now he is not pooping. What can i do to help him he tries to poop but he cant.???
