My baby girl always sucks chews on her hands and fingers even after a good feed?

My baby girl always sucks chews on her hands and fingers even after a good feed. When I put her back on she doesn't want anymore but still sucks and chews on her hands and fingers. She is 2.5 months old and breastfed every 2 hours. She was also born prem 3 weeks early. Could she be teething or is it something else?

1. This is how babies pass the time of day, and how they entertain themselves, and how they self-soothe.
At the age of your child, it is primarily with their mouth that they explore their world. While their eyes will hold interest for short periods of time, it seems their mouth is going most of the time.

2. Actually she sound just perfect it could be teething, but if your breastfeeding the best way to know if shes not eating enough is through her diaper. If you are changing plenty of diapers a day both wet and soiled then you can gauge how well shes doing. There is no exact number and no one know your baby girl the way you do. With that said I would still take her to see the Dr. just to make yourself feel better, u want to be calm and confident around your child if your too nervous you might pass on those feelings. LOL... I was just thinking she might be biting her nails... in no way im a doctor or an expert but it made me giggle a little to think of a baby biting there nails. Its just another avenue for you to consider.
Now that I just gave you another thing to worry about Im going to stop while Im ahead...Good luck and just try to enjoy it cuz if she really is teething your in for long painful sleepless nites

3. Wow. I am in the exact same situation. I have a 2.5 month old breastfed baby girl, and she sucks on her hands and fingers all the time and has since she was born, about 2 weeks early. She's not teething yet and nothing is wrong. Babies explore everything with their mouths and since her hands are the only things she can get to right now, she chews on them. Just wait until your baby is older and moves on from her hands. She'll be licking furniture, toys, pretty much anything she can reach. No need to worry :)

4. she's probably not teething, it's still a little early. but babies love sucking, so it feels soothing and good for her to suck on her hands. my son used to suck on his pointer and middle fingers, and now he's a thumb sucker :P
