How long after the baby is delivered is the epidural removed?

I'm a new mom to be and have a few questions for all you moms.

1) How long after the baby was delivered was the epidural removed?
2) How long after your baby was born did you breastfeed?
3) When after delivery did you take a shower?
4) How long after baby was born did you have visitors to see you and the baby at the hospital?
5) How long after having your baby (vaginally) did you feel good again physically? As in not in any pain?

Thanks for your answers!

1. 1. Can't remember, just happy to have my baby out.
2. Couldn't breastfeed, but I originally tried a few hours after birth. Babies aren't usually hungry right away.
3. The next day. I had her at 9:30pm, and showered the next day. I really didn't want to get out of bed though, I was in so much pain.
4. My family came to the hospital before she was even born, but my friends came the day after.
5. It still hurt to walk about 2 weeks later. Just a dull pain though.

2. 1. had natural so cant answer
2. did not breastfeed, but you can do it as soon as your baby is ready to eat
3. I had him at 6:46 that morning and showered about 8 that night
4. had him at 6:46 am and about 8am people started showing up and I had visitors all day
5. I felt good physically as soon as he was born. after they stitched me up (I ripped) I was walking around the room and I never stayed in bed. I was up the whole time. no pain except from the stitches after he was born. my grandmother said everytime she had a baby she felt as if she could run a mile. while I was pregnant I thought she was crazy, lol. but after I had my son, I knew exactly what she meant. I felt as if I could run 2 miles. it was great

3. 1. They took the epidural off within the first 30 minutes, right after all the stitches we're done. Had no epidural with my daughter.
2. I breastfed my son about 20 minutes after birth, and my daughter maybe 10-15 minutes ( tear was smaller therefore stitches took less time)...
3. With my son, I took a shower the next day, so like 12 hrs later... the stitches were just too painful to even walk... and with my daughter, I showered 4-5 hrs after birth.
4. The first visitors came after about 6 hours, both times.
5. With my son, it took.. ugh, like 1 year ?.. Again, the stitches... I had a 4th degree tear and cut with him.. took so long to feel good again.. But with my daughter, it took about 3 weeks! She is 5 weeks old now, and I am in no pain whatsoever :)

Hope all this helps ... good luck, and please, don't be so scared. Things will go on their own, and do stuff when you are ready to. Most of all, congratulations!!

4. 1. It was removed when I started to push.
2. 20-30 minutes or so ... once I'd delivered the placenta and was stitched up, the three of us were left alone for a while.
3. About 20 hours ... I had some issues and so wasn't able to get down the hall to the shower until the next afternoon.
4. Baby was born early in the evening. I had visitors the following day.
5. IIRC, episiotomy and sore nipples were pretty much healed up by the end of the first week.

5. My most recent birth:

1. Right after he was born
2. About 10 minutes after he was born.
3. A few hours after he was born.
4. A few hours
5. My first took weeks (I had a second degree tear). With my second baby I felt physically fine literally the next day ... I didn't have any tearing at all.

6. 1) How long after the baby was delivered was the epidural removed?

Right after birth with both my kids. I couldn't stand that thing taped to my back.

2) How long after your baby was born did you breastfeed?

With both I fed them right after birth after they where cleaned and wrapped up. So within probably 15 minutes. The sooner the better.

3) When after delivery did you take a shower?

I took a shower with my daughter the next morning, she was born at 10:22pm and I was in the shower at 6am and with my son he was born at 1:44am and I was int he shower at 4am. If you have a natural non-complicated delivery then normally they make you get up and walk and start doing stuff basically minutes after birth.

4) How long after baby was born did you have visitors to see you and the baby at the hospital?

Hubby, Mom and Sister where in the delivery room and my daughter came by the next morning with my son. I had my two best friends there the next evening for both.

5) How long after having your baby (vaginally) did you feel good again physically? As in not in any pain?

With both my kids I had long (30 hours +) deliveries so I was tired and sore for maybe a week but nothing compared to a c-section. I felt ok to walk around target to get diapers the day I left the hospital with my son!!! Plus chase around care for a 2 year old since my hubby was back at work with both kids the day I left the hospital.

Congrats and good luck :)

7. 1) immediately after
2) i can't remember... like a couple of hours I think
3) the next morning
4) an hour later. (I had him at 3pm, and visiting hours started at 4pm)
5) pretty much right after the epidural wore off. It's really suprising how quickly you bounce back considering what your body just went through!! My stiches bothered me for about a week. But my body was never in any pain or anything. (And I was in labor for 38 hours!)

8. 1) After they sewed me up.
2) Tried about 4 hours after (I didn't produce any milk)
3) With my son that I had at 11:28 am around 5pm (before supper) with my daughter that was born 12:22 am after breakfast at around 10am
4) Almost immediately
5) about 2 weeks (would have been sooner if I didn't have hemorrhoids)

9. 1) They shut off the epidural when I started pushing, but they didn't remove it from my back until about an hour after birth.
2) My baby was a preemie, so once they checked him over good and I got the placenta out and stitched up, I breastfed.
3) I gave birth at 9:30pm, so I didn't shower until the next day. I had to have my Mom help me because I was still hurting so bad and could barely get to the shower.
4) I was at a hospital about an hour and a half away from home so I didn't have any visitors except my parents and my husband.
5) I started feeling good about 3 weeks after birth. The first week, I still had trouble sitting and standing because it hurt "down there". I also had stitches, so that could be why. But, around the end of 2 weeks and into 3, I started feeling normal again. We waited until 4 weeks after birth before having sex again.

10. 1) they stop giving you the epidural when you start to push but don't take the iv out until after the baby is born.
2) i was induced at 37 weeks so due to all the drugs for that i didn't get to try to breastfeed until the next day.
3) most people get to shower pretty much right off the doctor checks you out and you get time with the baby. again i was induced and was stuck bed for almost 12 hours before i got to shower.
4) my son was born in germany (my husband is in the military) while all my family and friends live in the states so i had no visitors besides my hubby.
5) i felt good the first week, it wasn't until week two that i hurt for a week. mostly it was just painful to sit down.

11. I didn't have an epidural - I had a spinal block which is the same idea. I also had a emergency c-section, but planned on going completely natural and medication-free, but it didn't work out that way. I had made it to 8.5 cm dilated 100% effaced when they told me Andrew couldn't be delivered naturally without major complications. Oh well, next time, right?

Because my son was premature and had breathing and lung development problems, I wasn't allowed to feed him until the day after he was born - he was just on an IV until them. He wasn't able to latch correctly, so I used a nipple shield for the first two months of his life, until he was able to figure out how to latch. I did introduce the breast alone before each breastfeeding session, but it took a while for him to catch on.

Because I had a c-section I wasn't able to shower until the next day when they removed my catheter and bandaging. They cleaned me up fairly well before I left the OR. But I was still sweaty and gross from my intense labor.

I had visitors during my labor, and the minute I was wheeled into my recovery room my husband's whole family walked into the hospital. It was nice having people around me, because I wasn't able to see my son - who was being worked on in the NICU. Luckily my husband was allowed in, and sat next to him during all the procedures.

After my c-section I started feeling better (and was able to get in and out of bed, to and from the bathroom, etc) about a week after I delivered. I was in pain for about 2 weeks after I delivered. My son is almost 7 months and I feel like a million bucks. And am going to the doctor to get an x-ray to see if there's something wrong with my pelvis. If there isn't, the next baby WILL be a vaginal birth.

Good luck with your child! Just remember to breath through your contractions. You'll do great!

12. they take it out pretty quick...
didnt breast feed but they say you can do it right away
I took a shower right after everything.. about an hour later..
I had visitors the next day
I felt great as soon as she popped out..people couldnt believe i even had a baby!
