How to babies stand from a sitting position?

This sounds like a dumb question, I know, but how do babies stand from a sitting position? Do they use their hands to push themselves up or do they just use their legs?

Public Comments

1. They don't, unless they can hang onto something to pull up. They get on their hands and knees.

2. At first, my daughter would crawl over to something and pull herself up on it. After that she could let go and stand independently. When she started to get stronger and better at standing she could get up on her knees and then push up with the held of her hands onto her legs.

3. Baby's usually use something to help pull themselves up. They will get on there knees & use there hands.

4. My daughter is 11 months old and she uses her hands...she pushes her butt up then her upper body. Sometimes she hold on to something/myself and pulls herself up that way though. I have never heard of a baby able to stand up using only legs.

5. I believe they start off by holding onto things, to prop themselves up. Later they might stand up the way any adult does?

:)

6. My son will just get his feet up underneath him and kind of use his hands to shove himself off the ground. Pretty much like an adult would, I suppose.

If my son is squatting down playing, then he will just stand back up only using his legs. Add that with the fact they squat like that flat-footed....ouch! My leg muscles hurt just thinking about it..lol
