What happens when a baby is born at 7 months?
My friend's sister had a baby at 7 months a week ago and the baby is at the hospital right now. This made me think. What happens when a baby is born at 7 months? Does something happen to it? Will it develop like other babies? I'm NOT planning on one I'm just curious.

1. that means its premature and might have health problems from being born too early :( but sometimes they still turn out fine
2. Babies born that early tend to have respiratory problems and other issues, which result in a stay in the hospital. At 7 months, it's about a 50/50 chance that the baby will be okay.
3. Babies born at 28-30 weeks are not mature enough to control their temperature or suckle for nutrition. They may have problems breathing and need extra oxygen or be on a ventilator (usually briefly) for support breathing. Usually they are 2 pounds or a bit more. If they are *just* early, and nothing else is wrong, they just need to grow and mature so that they can breathe, eat, and maintain their temperature normally. Most children over 2 pounds at birth do well. They are usually discharged two weeks more or less their due date. Premature babies are at higher risk for infections while in the hospital, and for learning problems as they grow. Most babies do fine and develop normally. They certainly have a better than 50% chance.
