How do I organize my infant childcare class room and myself?

I have been a teacher in an infant room for 3 years. My biggest problem is not being able to be organized. How can I make a dramatic change?

Public Comments

1. Have different areas in the room marked for different things:
-puzzles/ blocks/ games stay on the carpet area
-clothes & house items stay in the house area

I like to colour code things as both you & the children know where they belong then.
Make rules & play expectations clear.... enforce them!
Have students help (as much as they can) with the clean up routine.
Do a once a week scan of materials that need to be repaired/ tossed out/ replaced.
Have a lost & found box - teach parents to look there weekly & toss/donate materials not collected.

Each child should have a mailbox for notes/ art work to & from home.
To stay organized with your own papers - have baskets on your desk for various in & out items: prepare binders (again colour coded) for different purposes & make sure you file into them often.

2. The biggest obstacle is to have parents to mark all the children clothing with markers. This way you will not have to have a box of left clothes for the children. I would keep a pen and stick it pad with me during the day to record some things that need to be noted about specific children and also put feeding on record and changes, parent volunteer boards and time displayed so parents can input them theirselves, make a permanent parent meeting board and use masking tape and add the date and time tape the masking tape to board which want harm. Put all documentation in one folder and when before you leave document it and record it.
