What documentation do you need to take an infant on a cruise?

I didn't need to have her birth certificate when I flew within the continental US, state-to-state, but I didn't need a passport for myself either. My family is planning a cruise, and we plan to bring our infant daughter. Do I need to obtain a passport for her, or carry any documentation for her identity, or to prove that we are her parents? She will be approximately a year old at the time of the cruise. (Just past her first birthday)

1. If a passport is required then the age does not matter. Cruises before June of next year that leave and return to a US port with only North American foreign stops do not require a passport. They do require a birth certificate and a government issued photo ID. For a child under 18 the government issued id will be the parent's unless a child between 16-17 has their own government ID. A passport is highly recommended in case of emergency. You are not allowed to fly from a foreign port to the US without a passport.
