when did your newborn start to settle down in to a routine?
how long did it take for your newborn to know night from day etc..
My newborn is just over 2 weeks old, i'll be honest its a lot tougher than i ever imagined.
Any help or tips would be great!

1. My first was around 4-5 weeks old when she stopped staying awake during the night. She continued to feed during the night for some time after that, but i never minded that so much.
My second is 5 weeks old now, and is just starting most nights, to stay asleep between her feeds.
2. at about 6 months.
3. Mine was about 8 weeks when he started to sleep through the night (9pm-6am). He was sleeping in his own room by then, which helped a lot. We use a baby monitor so we can hear any little noise he makes.
I also found that a warm bath followed by a bit of play then a feed works almost every time. Sometimes we cuddle him to sleep, sometimes we don't, he still falls asleep quickly and soundly.
Good luck - those interrupted nights won't last forever!!!!
4. My first was about 2 weeks old. She was such an amazing baby. I didnt realise till now how lucky i had it with her. She was a complete star. I never had to work hard to get her into a routine she kind of just created it herself.
My second was in her routine from about 4-5 weeks. I found it a bit harder than the first time to establish a routine though especially with having 2 kids.
You always get there in the end, even if it feels like you never will. Things eventually all fit into place.
My best advise for starting a routine is to start by bathing them at the same time every night then feed them and put them down to bed. Try to make sure your LO is awake so they can get used to going to sleep on their own. If your babi is still getting up during the night for night feeds make them quick, dont put bright lights on and try not to talk to them. They soon get used to it and wont wake up during the night X
5. I'm a single mummy and i so agree with you
it's a lot harder than i could have ever imagined
Wouldn't change it for the world tho would we?!
My little boy started his routine at 7 weeks
i started to bathe him at 8.30 feed him about 9 and he was sound asleep for 10pm
he's now nearly 5 months and still in the same routine and sleeps right thru the night till 7am
6. i started the routine around 3 weeks and about 5 weeks she knows it's bedtime after eating, a warm bath, and soft footed pjs. as soon as i start buttoning her up in her pjs her eyes get heavy. i started at 3 weeks because this is when she figured night and day out.
7. keep the noise of the house going while baby sleeps during the day (cars, telephones, talking in normal volume, vaccuming etc) and keep noise to a minimum during the night.
when you wake for feeds at night, speak seldom or in very quiet whispers, avoid long eye contact with baby.
when you are awake with baby during the day, speak often, talk with expression and happiness and enjoy long loving gazes with your baby.
Your baby will work out nights and days relatively quickly, but there is no rush. Just remember that every time baby shuts his or her eyes - mummy should do the same thing. It will help you cope with the new 24hr job you have got going with motherhood.
my son was awake for a feed every 4hrs (around the clock) until he was 6wks old. That was when the dr finally gave us the all clear for me to allow him to sleep longer at night instead of waking him for feeds 4hrly. Once i stopped waking him up at night for a feed, he started sleeping through 6-7hrs at night. It was also when he developed his own routine.
8. around 3 months fo rmy youngest! they will settle down into a day and night time routine themselves! when my daughter was frst born until around 3-4 weeks she didnt go to bed so to speak until 1.30am, the from 3-4 weeks she moved to 12midnight now at 17 weeks shes finaly going to bed at 10pm (a more reasonable time!) eventually she'll hopefully go down at 7pm with my other 2 but that wont be for a while yet! they'll settle into it on their own!!! she still has a feed at night usually between 3-4am but thats still to be expected for a little longer!
