How often do newborn babies cry during the day?
And do they need to constantly be held? Can you put them in the crib when they are not tired? Best answer goes to the person who has the most info about a newborn baby's average day. Thanks!

1. There really is no average on when a baby cries. It's usually when a baby is hungry, uncomfortable (full diaper), or tired. It depends on the child. Some babies eat less, and sleep less. Some babies eat more, and sleep more.
2. In any given day, the average newborn cries for two to three hours.
Rocking a baby gently in your arms, while standing or sitting in a rocking chair
Gently stroking baby's head
Patting back or chest
Wrapping baby snug in a blanket
Singing or talking
Playing soft music
Walking (in arms, stroller, or carriage)
Riding in car
Burping to relieve gas
Giving a warm bath
Changing locations (from light to dark)
Changing locations (from quiet to less quiet or vice-versa)
3. When they are newborn you want to hold them a lot so that they can get the attention they need. you don't have to hold them 24/7 but it is okay to hold them for a long time. You can put the baby in their crib when they are not tired that is not going to hurt them but don't just leave them in there and not care for them. Babies can cry a lot some babies cry 1-2 hours and others cry about 15 hours a day or more or less, every baby is different.
4. There is no 'Average' newborn.
They don't need to be held all day, my daughter has sessions of tummy time and sits in her bouncer alot while I'm doing things.
She doesn't cry much at all, but some cry constantly.
5. a lot
6. im not sure much about babys but i have 3 sister, one never cried, one cried a little bit, and the other cried all the time. if they arnt tierd put then in the crib they could plaay or just lay there. i always love to be infront of the tv... even when i was about 2 months. i would cry if i wasnt infront of the tv. I think i depends on the baby as to how much they cry a day.
7. Differs from baby to baby. My daughter never cried, and my son never stopped. Go figure lol.
In my opinion, yes your newborn needs to be comforted when it is crying. Keep in mind that the only way your child has to communicate with you is crying. So by learning the different way in which they cry and the different tones you can quickly learn to know what your baby needs and comfort it better. As well, with a baby so young you are still forming an attachment with them and they need your presence ( you smell, the sound of your voice, etc) If you can't hold them then keep them in a crib next to you while you are doing whatever so that they still get your "presence" I would personally never just let the baby sit alone in the crib at that young of an age though unless they are asleep or close to sleep, but that's just me.
8. How much a new born baby cries depends on the baby. My daughter cried constantly, but my youngest son (now 5 month) didn't cry once. As for holding a baby constantly, that is entirely upto you, hold your baby as much as you like and it is fine to put a baby in a crib when they are awake.
9. i have a 2 1/2 year old and a 3 month old and with both of my daughters they just cried when they wanted a bottle and that was every 3 hours but as soon as they had a bottle in their mouth they were happy. after that they would sleep. they don't need to be held constantly i really wouldn't recommend it either because they will get spoiled and want you to hold them all the time. put them down when they are asleep or almost asleep and let them fall asleep on their own. my 3 month old daughter loves to lay in her crib and watch the mobile while im doing stuff around the house. she seems to like it more when im not holding her and she is in her crib or in her swing.
10. It all depends on the baby some needs to be constantly held, but some dont (most do though). You can put them in the crib f they are not tired, but if the baby doesn't want to be in there then be prepared for screaming and crying until the baby gets what he/she wants! Most newborns don't sleep all the way through the night, so if they wake up the will want to be held and rocked. When its time to feed the baby don't make he/she drink a certain amount, they will take what they need. After the baby is a few weeks old and if he/she is still not sleeping throught the night, when the baby starts to cry ignore him/her until the crying stops, this will teach the baby every time he/she cries your not going to come, and the baby will eventually sleep throught the night. The main thing is you just need to get into a routine with your baby to tell how a typical day is going to go. Hope this helps!
11. There is no given time a baby cries each day. Every baby is different. Some babies will cry all day long and others will only cry when they need something. Usually a baby that cries all day long is given the title colic baby, and there may be no real reason the baby is crying.
