How much time should a newborn be sleeping?
My newborn is a week old and is about 10 lbs 5 oz. He drinks roughly 3-4 oz and has been sleeping almost 7 hours at a time. Is this ok? I know he is big for his size, so comparing babies about the same size.

1. You're extremely lucky to have a newborn who likes to sleep a lot.
Some newborns, wake up every hour for feeding.....
Your son is fine and let him sleep.
2. as long as he is getting his nutritional needs met - let him sleep! you're going to miss this time.
3. I don't know, but I'm hoping I'm this lucky! (My baby girl is due in December!)
4. He's ok. You could, if your worried, wake him up after 5 hours and check if he's hungry. But i'm sure thats fine. God bless
5. I don't know for sure, but you should probably be waking them up after 4 hours. I know if the baby was breastfed, you have to wake them up at least every 3 hours to eat for the first 2 weeks to a month. But I don't know if that rule applies to formula fed babies. I'd check with your doctor to be certain.
6. Newborns sleep A LOT. My daughter is 5 months and still sleeps about 15 hours a day. If you're breastfeeding you shouldn't go more than 5 hours without nursing or pumping, otherwise you could lose your milk supply.
Also, if a 2-6 week old doesn't wake to eat every 2.5-3 hours during the day you risk him getting days and nights mixed up and that's no fun. I used the babywise sleep/feed method and chose to wake my baby every 2.5 hours starting at day eight and at night I woke to feed her after 5 hours if she hadn't woke up earlier on her own.
