How long did your baby wear newborn clothes?

I'm currently 30 weeks pregnant and finishing up my shopping for baby. I want to get him 2 pair of newborn pants, 2 pair newborn shorts and like a 5 pack of newborn onesies but my husband and I have been arguing about this because he claims newborns don't wear the newborn size they start wearing 0-3 months right when they come out! I personally think he's wrong so I'm just wondering how many people had babies in newborn size and how long was your baby in newborn size?

1. I can't remember. Not very long. I'd go with the 0-3 month size. Your baby might even be such a good size that newborn doesn't even really fit.

2. Well certain 0-3mos fit like newborn... my first baby was in nb for a week, my second baby never ever wore nb..

3. For a little over 1 month..if its your first then chances are the baby is going to be small. Dont be afraid to buy newborn clothes! I actually found myself buying them after he was born. He was 6lb 9oz

4. I put my daughter in 0-3 month stuff right away. We had just a few newborn things, but she was in them for only a short amount of time. She was 7lbs, 11oz at birth.

5. I've had 5 kids, ranging in birth weights from 6lbs7oz to 7lbs15oz. The longest any wore newborn sizes was 2 weeks. My sister-in-law had a son who wore preemie sizes for over a month, then newborn for about another 2-3 months. It all depends on how fast your baby grows. I wouldn't suggest stocking up on more than 3 or 4 newborn sized things, though, until you know how big your baby is and see how fast he grows. Good luck with your new little one!

6. Not long at all. We ended up with NB clothes he never wore but he could wear most of the 0-3 right away. Born 8lb2oz

7. MY DAUGHTER DID NOT FIT NEWBORN CLOTHES AT ALL.. MOST BABYS DONT! I BOUGHT ONE OUTFIT JUST IN CASE BUT THAT IS IT. ITS BETTER TO HAVE BIGGER THEN SMALL. ALSO IF YOUR BABY DOES FIT NEWBORN IT WILL ONLY BE FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS NO LONGER.
GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS

8. My son, was born at 8lbs 9oz and was 21 inches long. He wore newborn clothes for maybe 2 - 4 weeks. Then he wore 0-3 and 3 months and some 3-6 months till he was almost 13 weeks. He then had a growth spurt at 14-15weeks and now he wears 9 month clothing and he is a bit over 17 weeks.

9. I got bunch of stuff in newborn size for my babyshower, but she didn't get a chance to wear it much because her belly button would bleed when I put something tight like NB size, I was also afraid I'd break her tiny arms getting them through the tiny tiny sleevs, another thing, babies grow fast, in first 3-4 months they double their birth weight. I put her straight in 0-3 size and it worked out great. It also depends how big is your baby. Mine was 7 lb 11 oz - not too small so she grew out of newborn size within first 2 weeks.
I think your hubby is right.

10. About 3 weeks. She was a little lost in 0-3 month stuff at first! But she could wear it at about 2 weeks, and there were a few days of transition where she could wear both.

Also, some clothes are smaller. Gerber brand stuff seems to be a little smaller. She could wear 0-3 month sleepers from there right away.

Also: The advice I give all new moms, something you don't think about. ZIPPERS>>>>SNAPS!!! Who wants to be snapping up the crotch of a sleeper at 3:17 AM when you could be zipping?!

11. Babies come in at all sizes. Hold back on the clothes buying until nearer your due date sometimes the maternity department can give you a rough idea of how big your baby will be. I bought 0 - 3 months for my 2nd son but as he arrived 3 weeks early I sent my husband out the next day to get some smaller sizes. 0-3 months clothes are usually wearable from birth and you will get more wear out of them. If your baby is especially small or early it is easy enough to get some smaller clothes if required

12. 6 weeks for my children, 0-3month clothing just fell off them before then!
If you buy newborn size get CHEAP stuff, go to the big discount department stores for newborn size and I would NOT buy any more than the five pack of onesies, and one pair of pants. The pants for a going home outfit.

Have a look at your family birth weight history and go by the average size of a newborn in YOUR family.

13. My baby never fit in newborn clothes from the start cause she was so tall. Try getting 0-3 or even 3 months. Even if its too big your baby will grow into it. Congratulations!

14. It really depends on the size of the baby.

My first wore newborn for a month and my second wore newborn for 2 mos but she also wore some preemie clothes in the beginning. I think she wore preemie for 3 weeks.

I know babies that have completely skipped newborn size but some are in them for months.

Not all babies are the same.

Check the tags on the clothes you get, most have height and weight labels now.
Preemie clothes go up to 5 or 7lbs and newborn clothes go from 7-10 or 11lbs I think. Depends on the brand.

15. All four of mine started with 0-3 months old as t fits most new born and you get so much wear out of them as well then. if your worried I suggest you do what we did get second hand clothing for the new born we had loads from car boot sales most hardly used some never used still with prices on them. babies grow at different rates and can be out of a size in a few days or a few weeks, so getting second hand hardly used ones makes sense and saves the money form the real important stuff.

16. mine little girl is 3 week and still wearing them she is 8pounds but trim 0-3 are way to big for her and some newborn are to it just the way she is built but my son was out of them in like a week or 2

17. My daughter was 7lb 6 and ended up wearing NB for 13 weeks, although after about 6 weeks she started fitting into 0-3 months. Probably best not to buy too many of any size until your baby is born, so you know exactly what size to go for. Our problem was that we had so many Summer 0-3 month clothes and she only started fitting into them in Autumn that we ended up having to put long sleeved body suits under every little jumpsuit. I had to get family to go and buy NB clothes for me as we didn't have anything small enough. Either have a few outfits or arrange for someone to be able to go out and buy you smaller sizes if necessary. All the best for the next 10 or so weeks :)

18. My baby didn't fit into any of his when he was born. When they are a newborn you want them to wear looser clothes so it does not irritate the umbilical cord.

19. Probably only 1 1/2 weeks for newborn. Total waste to have more than 3 outfits that size. 0-3 fits just is a little big.

20. 0-3 was huge on my daughter she was an 8lb baby so not that small and she was wearing newborn for just over a month, some of them were still huge on her at that stage although she was starting to fit into some 0-3 depending what shop the clothes were from. its best to buy a variety of newborn and 0-3 months as you wont know the size of baby until theyre born, some babies do go striaght into 0-3 or are only in newborn for a week or two, but to me it was still worth getting the newborn stuff i dont like putting a baby in clothes far too big for them. get the majority of outfits in 0-3 months though as it will be a waste of money to go ott with newborn, i barely put my daughter in the outfits just mainly the babygrows until 0-3 months when she had lots of outfits. its better to be prepared just incase you have a smaller baby, even if you dont use the newborn stuff keep the tags on so you can swap them for a bigger size.

21. My now 18 month old was in newborn clothes for about two months... I mixed NB and 0-3 months for a while and then he was in 0-3 months until about he was about 6 months (mixed with some 3-6) and then he started getting really tall really fast and got more on track with fitting into the size that was his actual age. Though now he's gotten quite tall and skinny so I make a lot of his pants or put him in overalls. My son was a preemie though and had some feeding problems early on, most babies will only be in newborn clothes for a couple weeks to a month maybe, if you want some clothes that you are pretty sure will fit well for special occasions and pictures then I say that few items of newborn clothes are perfectly acceptable, just don't fill a dresser with only newborn clothes. If you aren't sure how big your baby will be, keep the tags on everything except what you want to bring them home in so you can have the option of returning if he/she turns out to be a bigger baby. Wearing clothes that are a little big isn't going to harm them though.
