Why are the sizes for toddler bedding fitted sheets bigger than crib fitted sheets if the mattress size is the?

My daughter has a crib that converts to a toddler day bed and then to a full size bed. She is 15 months old and is still in her crib. I am trying to find new bedding for her and don't know if I need to get toddler or crib bedding. I want to get toddler bedding because it is cheaper, but the sizes are different for each of them. Any suggestions on what to do?

1. i never realized they where different maybe just cause with the toddler bed the sheets will hang over the sides more?

2. Toddler fitted sheets fit the mattress dimensions of a crib mattress --- crib or toddler bedding will work. However, crib bedding doesn't include a flat sheet which toddler bedding often does.
