How can I convince my shy toddler to participate?
My son has never wanted to participate in anything that involves other children - except with his two cousins. At storytime at the library and at swimming lessons, he freezes and hides in my lap. This week we're visiting the cousins who take a toddler karate class. I've signed him up and he's excited to go. Any ideas on how I can break him out of his freeze when we get there and get him to try it out? Thanks so much for any suggestions!

1. my daughter is the same way,she spoke 3 words in preschool, now its going better,i would wait and do nothing, the other kids will do the job:)
2. I would continue to take him places where there are other people. He may be the kind of child that needs time to adjust to his surroundings. Allow him to go at his own pace, don't force him to participate. The more you expose him to new situations, they more confident he will become.
